Welcome To Doon
Welcome to the web-site for
Doon Presbyterian Church in
Kitchener.
Our congregation was established in 1853 by the Rev. John Bayne,
a tireless worker for the gospel who led the Free Church
movement in
Upper Canada. Participating in the union of the Free Church with
the Associate Synod in 1861, and then the union that formed the
Presbyterian Church in Canada in 1875, Doon's mission then, and
today, included a desire to participate with other congregations
in the work of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
While we are a Presbyterian congregation, the people of
Doon Church come from many denominational backgrounds, including
Lutheran and Roman Catholic, Anglican and Baptist. The energy
of our people gives additional strength to our worship and
mission, as we share together and with the community the love of
God in Jesus Christ.
We have come a long way, - from a congregation that worshipped
without instrumental music and with only a
precentor to lead in
worship to a congregation with three choirs, two organs
(including the first pump organ from the 1890's), a grand piano,
and an electronic keyboard. In worship, we also praise God, from
time to time, with the sounds of flute and fiddle, saxophone and
guitar and other instruments.
God has richly blessed us, and we seek to share that blessing
with the community of the
village of Doon and beyond. When you are in the neighbourhood,
we invite you to come and celebrate with us the goodness of our
God.
